Multiple Teams · Wrestlers win IHSWCA State Championship

The Churubusco Wrestling team competed in the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association team state duel championships at Westfield High School on Saturday, January 4th.  Participation in this tournament is through invitation from the coaches association only.

The wrestling team defeated Bremen, South Putnam, and Adams Central en route to winning this prestigious state championship.  The final match with Adams Central was a back and forth contest the entire way.  There were three different classes (1A, 2A, 3A) of state championship matches and the final matches for each class were played simultaneously in the same gym.  The 1A Busco/AC match was the focus of the entire gym as it entered the final contest tied 36-36 with the winner of the final individual match taking the state championship. Busco was able to get a pin fall in the final match and secure the state title.

No matter what the outcome of that final match would’ve been; our wrestlers, coaches, managers, parents, and fans represented Churubusco with tremendous class and passion. It was a privilege to see this event and for our student-athletes to participate in it.

Congratulations to our 2014 wrestling team state champions.
