Brayten Gordon drove in four on three hits to lead Churubusco past Southwood 8-4 on Thursday. Gordon drove in runs on a single in the third and a home run in the fifth.
Churubusco got on the board in the first inning when Parker Curry hit a solo homer.
Churubusco put up three runs in the second inning. Churubusco scored its runs on an RBI double by Evan Snyder.
Assistant coach, Layne Fulk was pleased with his team’s offense. “Any time Southwood pushed a run across the board,” Fulk commented, “we found a way to score 2 or 3 more runs ourselves and maintain a comfortable lead.”
Curry earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Churubusco. He surrendered three runs on four hits over three innings, striking out three. Gabe Richards threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Churubusco smacked two home runs on the day. Gordon went for the long ball in the fifth inning. Curry went deep in the first inning.
Regarding the extra base hits, Fulk said, “It’s awesome to drive the ball and do our jobs when we have runners in scoring position. We hit the ball very well tonight.”
Churubusco racked up nine hits. Gordon, Curry, and Snyder all managed multiple hits for Churubusco. Gordon led Churubusco with three hits in four at bats.
